Government
Funding

& How it Works in the Care System

Navigating the ins and outs of government funding in the care system can seem overwhelming, but rest assured, you’re not alone. At My Care Journey, we’re here to guide you through each step of this journey with clear, empathetic and personalised assistance.

Government Subsidies
in Aged Care

The government subsidies many aged care services in an effort to make them more affordable. These subsidies are available for both home care and residential care services. Those eligible for subsidies are expected to contribute to the cost of their care if they can afford to. The costs vary depending on the type of care and the service provider selected.

Whether you are looking for Aged Care Homes or In-Home Care, we’ll help you find the provider that is the right fit for you!

Government Programs
for Home Care

Two main government programs provide financial assistance for home care: the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and the Home Care Package Program.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme is an entry-level care service aimed at helping older people with low care needs. It encompasses various categories: Community and home support, Meals and food services, Allied health support services, Respite care, and Help with care and housing.

On the other hand, the Home Care Package Program is designed to support individuals to live independently in their own home for as long as they can. It’s broken down into four levels, with different funding amounts covering basic support needs through to high care needs.

For those with specific conditions, there are additional government funding sources, including the dementia and cognition supplement, CAPs funding, financial hardship, oxygen supplement, and enteral feeding funding.
